Tomato... Ta- ma-toe

You say tomato we say, we have you covered!🍅⁣

This year we are planting several varieties of tomatoes, including eight varieties to be planted in the high tunnel!

Overall we are going to have ten varieties of cherry tomatoes, nine varieties of beefsteak tomatoes and sixteen varieties of heirloom tomatoes!⁣

As of yesterday we made mini soil blocks and planted two trays that will stay in the greenhouse for a couple of months. ⁣

We are hoping that our 2019 harvest will be our biggest one yet!👨🏼‍🌾 With several different varietals I hope that you can find one that you love too!⁣

Quick, tell me! How do you use ginger?

Ginger season is here!☀️

Well kind of…

Over the past couple of days we have cut our hands of ginger, waited for the cuts to callus (heal over) and then placed them into pots filled shallowly with soil mix in our greenhouse where they will hang out for six to eight weeks. This is considered to be their “pre sprouting” phase so it is important to make sure they stay warm and cozy to allow them to start slowly growing shoots and roots that will eventually become baby ginger.  Once they have been cared for, over the next couple of months we will plant them in our high tunnel. This processes varies sometimes depending on the weather, but usually occurs mid- May.🌈

And then we wait… ⏳

We expect to have our ginger harvest in October. 🍂That means in order to do so, we need to start several months in advance. Ginger normally doesn’t grow in our climate, so in order to speed up the process, we start at the beginning of spring!

Sure it doesn’t look like spring right now with it snowing…. again🙄 but just wait, it’s coming!

Do you have questions on our process or want to learn more about it?
